Barbados Tridents edged a tense contest against Jamaica Kingsmen by two wickets at the Kensington Oval on Saturday, thanks to a composed knock by Sadrack Descartes.
Chasing 151, Descartes' authoritative innings of 56 propelled the Tridents towards the target, despite resistance from the Kingsmen's bowlers.
The Kingsmen started cautiously, posting 50 runs and losing just one wicket inside the powerplay. Maaz Sadaqat was crucial in setting a solid foundation, scoring 47 runs from 34 balls.
The Tridents fought back during the middle overs, tightening the run flow and claiming key wickets. Daniel Sams was especially effective, taking critical wickets including Andre Russell's.
The final overs saw the Kingsmen lose their grip on the match. Jakeem Pollard's three-wicket haul played a significant role in preventing the Kingsmen from posting a bigger total, restricting them to 150/9.
The Tridents' chase began shakily as they lost three wickets for just 33 runs inside the first six overs. Brandon King's earnest 18 runs couldn't avert the early setbacks.
Sadrack Descartes came to the rescue, forging crucial partnerships through the middle, first with Quinton de Kock and later with Chris Green, to help stabilize the innings.
Despite late drama with the fall of quick wickets, Gudakesh Motie kept his nerve, scoring 17 off 8 balls to guide the Tridents to a win in the final over.
