Barbados Tridents Women faced a 21-run defeat against Trinbago Knight Riders Women at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday. Despite a promising start, the Tridents could not maintain momentum, crumbling in the middle overs of their chase.
The bowling brilliance of Samara Ramnath and Shikha Pandey kept the Tridents on the back foot as the Knight Riders effectively defended their total.
Batting first, Laura Harris powered Trinbago Knight Riders Women with a blistering 38 off 19 balls, including four boundaries and three maximums. Yastika Bhatia supported with 35, and their partnership set the foundation with 67 runs for the first wicket in the powerplay.
The Tridents managed to exert some control in the middle overs as Qiana Joseph and Afy Fletcher chipped in with crucial breakthroughs. However, a late-order rally by Madeline Penna and quick fire from Shikha Pandey powered the Knight Riders to a total of 155.
Qiana Joseph put in an all-round performance, taking four wickets for 27 runs in her four overs. Her efforts, supported by Hayley Matthews and Suzie Bates, ensured the Knight Riders were bowled out in their final over.
The Tridents began their innings strongly, with Qiana Joseph and Hayley Matthews adding 40 runs for the first wicket. Their efforts seemed to set a solid foundation for the chase.
Despite the promising start, the Tridents' middle order faltered. After Matthews fell at the beginning of the fifth over, wickets tumbled regularly as the innings progressed, preventing any substantial partnerships from developing.
Kiran Navgire's innings of 28 from 21 balls provided a glimpse of hope with a few boundaries, but it ultimately wasn’t enough as the batters struggled against disciplined bowling from Pandey and Ramnath.
In the death overs, Knight Riders' bowlers applied pressure, leading to frequent wickets. Ramnath and Pandey led with precision, ensuring the Tridents were bundled out for 134 in 18.4 overs.
The Barbados Tridents Women will look to bounce back when they face Jamaica Empress Women at Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday.
