Trinbago Knight Riders triumphed over the Barbados Tridents by 35 runs at Kensington Oval on Saturday, with an assertive display led by Nicholas Pooran's power hitting and an incisive bowling performance from Sunil Narine.
Nicholas Pooran's 59 from 37 balls set the pace for the Knight Riders, complemented by Sunil Narine's four wickets that restricted the Tridents to 112 runs.
The Knight Riders forged a significant 68-run partnership between Nicholas Pooran and Colin Munro, guiding them to 82/2 by the 11th over. Pooran's seven maximums were central to their attacking strategy.
While Gudakesh Motie made crucial breakthroughs, taking 3/29 including Pooran's wicket, Mujeeb Ur Rahman chipped in with two wickets to halt the Knight Riders at 147/6.
Sunil Narine dismantled the Tridents' top order early in the powerplay, claiming three quick wickets including Quinton de Kock and Rivaldo Clarke. By the end of the powerplay, the Tridents were reeling at 35/4.
Attempts to stabilize the innings were thwarted as Jyd Goolie struck twice, removing Zachary Carter and Sadrack Descartes in the middle overs to leave the Tridents at 73/6.
Despite efforts from Daniel Sams and Sherfane Rutherford who briefly resisted with small partnerships, the Tridents were ultimately bowled out for 112, Narine returning to claim the final wicket.
The Barbados Tridents will aim for redemption as they take on Saint Lucia Kings at Kensington Oval in Barbados on Sunday.
